Kerri: I have worked in childcare for 14 years, and worked as far afield as Australia. During this period, I have obtained a SVQ Level 3 in Children and Young people. Working in Australia allowed myself to experience different modes and methods of working within the sector, and taking those ideas with me back to Scotland. I have always loved being around children, they are honest and not afraid to express how they feel. They are adventurous and like to learn and try new things, and I love being part of that. I have two beautiful daughters of my own, so a majority of my free time is taken up by them. We love going out on ventures in the woods with our dog Lily, as well as making and going out for dinner as a family.

Lori: I have worked in the childcare sector for 8 years, during which, I have acquired a SVQ level 3 qualification in childcare. In furtherance, I am currently working towards a PDA Management Level 8. Similarly, I am first aid trained. Most of my free time is spent with my son, being outdoors with him and taking our dogs for walks. When I am not doing mother duties, I love to read and go on walks along the beach.

Rachel: I have worked in childcare for 3 years and have Qualified myself in SVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People. I love baking and, being a big book worm, I love reading. I also like to go on walks and keeping fit by going to the gym.

Catherine: I have worked in the childcare sector on and off for 5 years. Courtney: I have worked in childcare for a period of 5 years. During this time, I have achieved a Level 2 qualification in early education and childcare and wish to further qualify myself in achieving a Level 3. In my spare time, I like singing songs with my children and taking them to libraries. Furthermore, I like to go shopping and treat myself every once and awhile.

Emma: I have been working in childcare for 6 years and I am qualified in SVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People. The most rewarding thing about working in childcare in seeing the boys and girls grow to be their own individual person, and knowing you have been a part of helping them thrive. My hobbies include reading, going for walks and swimming. I enjoy babysitting for my family and friends likewise.

Hayley: I have worked within the sector for 5 years. And I am on route to finishing the SVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People. I love the outdoors too and taking the boys and girls whatever the weather.

Nazia: Food Hygiene certificate. I have PDA Level 6 in Classroom Assistant and I have Level 4 AAT in Accounting. I also have a teacher’s training certificate in IT.

Senior Staff liase frequently with the Nursery Managers, Deputies and appraisals occur regularly. They can be identified by a different coloured uniform and their name badges.

All senior staff are qualified Nursery Practitioners with a SVQ level 3 in Childcare, or HNC in Childcare and Education.

The Nursery Support Workers are also dedicated and are sensitive to the needs of the individual children. They have a range of experience, some possessing other qualifications, however they are getting trained for the Level 3 (SVQ).

All our staff regularly attend training nights and are qualified in the following: Child Protection, How good is our early learning and childcare, food hygiene, Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC), Paediatric First Aid, Curriculum for Excellence, Pre Birth to 3 Planning, Autism and Awareness Training.

Staff are encouraged to participate in courses and further their professional development by attending our monthly training from our sister company One Step Access Training Company. We require all staff to have Child Protection Training.

The Nursery operates a key person system. A key person has special responsibilities for working with a small number of children, giving them the reassurance to feel safe and cared for and building relationships with their parents.

Notice boards in each room help identify the whereabouts of staff.

The Nursery is staffed according to the numbers of children present. The ratio of staff to children is as follows:

1:3 for babies/toddlers 3 months – 2 years
1:5 for children 2 years – 3 years
1:8 for children 3 years – 5 years.
